What is Shibori?
Shibori is a traditional Japanese manual resist dyeing technique that produces patterns on fabric. The word "shibori" comes from the Japanese verb "shiboru," which means "to wring, squeeze, or press." Several methods are used to achieve different patterns, such as binding, folding, twisting, or compressing the fabric. This ancient technique results in unique, intricate designs that are both beautiful and culturally significant.
